| Subject: | Two party system ? |
| Author: | Dale |
| Opinion: | Why is it?? When congress is in session and a republician presents a bill, it is approved almost 100 % by the republician party and disapproved by the same margin by the democrats. Now, an almost identical bill is presented by a democrat and gets almost 100% approval by the democrats, and is disapproved by the same margin by the republicians. It would seem some of each party might find something good about the other party's bill. We apparently don't have a two party system, but rather two one party systems and neither can find any good in the other. What ever Happened to the slogan of "What's good for the country or what's good for the people". Why is it??? |

| Opinion: | Opinion: There is no real difference between the Democratic and Republican Parties. They only cater to different segments of the special interest groups. Vote for one of the independent parties just to make a point to our "elected" officials. |

| Subject: | Reply to editorial The income gap in the Las Vegas Journal. |
| Author: | Frank Bartlett |
| Opinion: | This editorial really epitomizes the mentality of the conservative wealthy class in this country. It bares the callous disregard the wealthy have for those in a lower cast of our society. The prescription suggested is of course correct. Raise the minimum wage; "implement a wide range of supports for low income families," and, of course, "reform regressive state tax systems" - raise taxes on the rich. The statement that America's "poor" would be considered wealthy anywhere else in the world is both arrogant and untrue. Perhaps if we compare them with Somalia or some other third world country this might be accurate but when compared to other industrialize countries this is just inaccurate. The analogy of improvising the Ford family with increased taxes is almost childish in its suggestion. Just who does the author think the readers of his editorial page are anyway? We all understand that those with wealth invest to create more wealth and this is the American way but this does not mean that wealth should be attained at any cost to the remainder of the population. Exploitation of the poor is not an acceptable prescription for gaining wealth in this country or anywhere else in this world. The sooner the wealthy realize that because of their good fortune, which in many cases comes not from hard labor but from being born into a desirable situation, and that they do have an obligation to the rest of society the better off the world will be. If those with the means to make a difference do not attempt to do so then who will? But of the entire editorial the most condescending and self-inflating remark is that somehow the poor all indulge in dead-end behavior and the hard-workers all are rewarded with wealth. Perhaps the author should have been born into a family with a below poverty level income and sustained all of the benefits that are provided in this environment before passing judgement. |

| Opinion: | The veterans of America have long been without
anyone on 'the hill' representing them. Less
than 15% of those in Congress have ever served
in the military. No wonder they are steeling
funds from the Veterans Admisistration to fill
their pork barrels. If you are one that votes
for the man and not for the party, then John
McCain is the only choice. Also see Government. |

| Opinion: | For the first time in the last 3 to 4 elections, the American people have several clear choices as to who they want to lead the country. There is even a choice within the two parties, as the difference between the candidates is clear. |

| Subject: | Oil Embargo ?!?!?! |
| Author: | Steidl@wi.rr.com |
| Opinion: |
Did you know that Iraq was the sixth largest oil importer to the USA last year ???
One might ask why we are buying oil from Iraq, more importantly one might ask just how they were able to move that oil being that their oil distribution equipment was destroyed during the gulf war.
Well it seems there is a little company called Halliburton and Halliburton took it upon itself to go into Iraq and repair those pipelines.
In my opinion this company and all its officers should be charged with treason and shot, deporting them would only get them lives of luxury somewhere oh like Iraq.
Now it gets even more interesting, it turns out that the CEO of Halliburton was none other than our reprehensible presidents reprehensible vice president one Dick Cheney.
Now you tell me that the Bushes, the Cheneys and the bin Ladens aren't all in it together.
Iraq and others can't use Halliburtons website, but Cheney can go over there and rebuild them with the blessings of the past and current administration. |
