I replaced the mother board in my computer with a AMD 450 MHz k6-2. After trying to install Windows 95 I found out that it would not run at 450 MHz without a patch from Microsoft. It would run at the 450 MHz speed in Windows 98 but not without problems. This was the first version of Win 98 so maybe they have fixed this bug but my only fix was to set the clock speed at 300 MHz and the buss speed at 66. To be honest I could not tell the difference between the two speeds and it has ran problem free since I reset the clock speed so I am not unhappy with the performance of the chip. With the vast variety of mother-boards and chips it does not surprise me that there are so many bugs running the different chips. Because of the lower price I paid for the AMD as compared to the Pentium it seemed like a good trade off. |
